Franklin Roosevelt was an enigmatic president of the United States of America whose first term as the president and the and the statesman of the Nation commenced in the year 1933 and later won three more presidential elections. He was born in the year 1882in New York specifically from the Dutchess County. Franklin Roosevelt is an alumnus of both Harvard college ad Groton school. He was blessed with three children after marrying Eleanor Roosevelt in the year 1905. He was a Democrat whose actions dominated the party for numerous years. For many years Franklin Roosevelt was a central figure in the world events. What is the event that is being memorialized? The event being memorialized is a celebration of the four freedoms that Franklin Roosevelt articulated in the year 1941, State of the Union address. The event, Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, is a memorial that is in a four acre lan d and is attributed to the great American President. The memorial is situated in New York towards to lower southern parts of the popular Roosevelt Island. To be specific, it is situated exactly to the East River between the Queens and the Manhattan River. Louis Kahn is the architect who designed it. This is a park that is open all year and is operated by Four Freedoms Park Conservancy. How did the memorial come to be? What is the background to the commission? The memorial is purely based on the four freedoms that Franklin D. Roosevelt announced in his speech in the year 19941. The freedoms are freedom to speech, freedom to worship, freedom to from want and lastly freedom from fear. The memorial park was thus, designed to honor Franklin D. Roosevelt for his speech and revolution in the American History. The time of the speech was quite crucial as it was towards the bend of the great depression ad a time when people needed freedom and peace in the world. For most, New York is the home of the late president Roosevelt, so the locality of the park signifies his motherland, thus its an attribution of the people of New York, that their son deed a good work for the United States of America. The artist who designed this wonderful work is known as Louis Kahn. Louis Isadore Kahn is an architect of American origin whose base was in Philadelphia. Was a renowned architect whose work is still celebrated today? In the year 1935, he founded his own, atelier. Louis Kahn was blessed with three children with three women. He had a son by the name Nathaniel Khan who authored a documentary about his dad. The name of the documentary is: My Architect: a sons Journey. He released the documentary in the year 2003, which is the same year his father died. He served as an professor in the University of Pennsylvania in the school of design. Kahns work was exemplary good and beyond modernism. Some of his works remained not built until his death. Furthermore, he won the award of AIA Gold Medal as well as the RIBA Gold Medal.
